Oxford Maqam with friends in Urfa, 2022
Comprising the traditional takht (chamber ensemble) combination of instruments, Oxford Maqam’s
musicians are some of just a handful in the world exploring the Egyptian repertoires
of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries with authenticity.

This was a period of creativity and artistic license in which Arabic sound recordings set the musical tone across the Eastern Mediterranean and Arab world.

Their brand of music- beautiful and engaging recreations of Egyptian song from the mid 1800s through to the early cinema era - offers an opportunity to listen to a repertoire now seldom performed.

Their performances have included live at the BBC, King's Place, the London Jazz Festival,
the Tabernacle for Nour Festival and St Paul’s Cathedral.

Performing nationally and internationally, they have
toured Australia and Turkey as well as
performing in
Egypt, the Czech Republic, and the Kuwait Opera House.
