Performing at the Greenwood Theatre, this concert is the culmination of a four-year-long collaborative project to recreate the soundworld of 1950s Egyptian cinema.
The concert begins with traditional instruments that help create the heady atmosphere of tarab (Arabic for a musical groove).
In the second half, the Big Band shifts gears to play the punchy brass numbers of Abdel Halim Hafez, one of the Arab world’s most popular singer-actors.
This is an unmissable opportunity to experience the diversity of Egyptian popular culture presented live by a uniquely talented and knowledgeable ensemble working in the UK today.
